Sound More Like Your Hero's!
If you’ve been playing the blues with the pentatonic scale and you’re thinking; ‘This doesn’t sound like BB King or Stevie Ray Vaughan,’ this is a huge part of what you’re missing in sounding more authentic.. just like your heros!
Mixing major and minor pentatonics can seem a bit confusing at first. Most of us are much more familiar with the minor pentatonic (and usually just one position of it!), but mixing them both together and playing all over the neck can be a total mystery.
I bet you already know some licks and phrases; they are a fantastic way to understand the genre and common vocabulary. This approach is used in all styles, not just blues. The tricky thing is if you try to get that one lick to fit everywhere—it just doesn’t work! The key thing is to understand how and why they work.
When I first heard about using this, I certainly had a few problems trying to understand it! I spent a long time breaking down solos from BB King, trying to understand just what they were doing. But don’t worry! One good thing that has come from all that study is I can explain it to you in a really simple, easy-to-understand way.
I’ll show you a straightforward approach so you’ll be able to start creating right away. I’ll also demonstrate how you can play these ideas all over the neck, no more getting stuck one place!
In this course, you’ll find lots of musical examples, not to mention all the licks, phrases, and solos I’ve written exclusively for this course—so you won’t hear them anywhere else! I break everything down and explain absolutely everything I play and why it works. That way, you can understand the process, not just play licks and try to fit them in. You’ll be able to create your own phrases, licks, and solos!
